Meet jes

Jessica is a sculptor and art educator. She has worked as a professional illustrator and has taught ceramics, sculpture, art education, and graphics at the high school and university levels. For the last 15 years, she has worked in Arts Administration.

Born in Swansea, Wales, Jes immigrated to St. Augustine, Florida, as a small child, so she’s almost a local. She grew up in the nation’s oldest city and left for the big art world, getting a BFA in illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design, a Master’s degree concentrating in sculpture, and an Educational Specialist degree in administration and leadership. After nearly 30 years as an artist and educator working in Atlanta, she is eyeing retirement and returning home to her roots on St. Augustine Beach to spend more time with her family.

A bear attacked Jessica as a child, leaving her an accidental lefty. Living with a prosthetic hand for most of her life, her sculptures intersect the natural and mechanical worlds like she does, with a bit of a grin and a sense of hope.
